Zelda’s immune system had been severely weakened by the stress of malnourishment and the harsh conditions of street life as a stray. Consequently, she was afflicted with a severe case of Demodex mange, leaving her nearly bald and her skin ravaged by hair loss, oozing sores, and cracked, itchy patches.

Although mange is typically treatable within six to eight weeks and not inherently life-threatening, it can pose challenges for pets entering certain animal shelters where treatment may not be readily available. Fortunately, Zelda found herself at the Arizona Humane Society (AHS), where she received specialized medical care including daily baths, medication, and frequent skin tests.

Afterward, she was placed in a caring foster home to complete her recovery, receiving ample love and attention. Now, just over a month later, Zelda has defied the odds and emerged victorious. Her once-beleaguered appearance has been transformed, her coat now gleaming, soft, and adorned with a beautiful brindle pattern—a testament to the exceptional care she received.
