Technological advancements happen so fast that it is nearly impossible for us to keep up with them. These changes have had both positive and frustrating impacts on our lives. We have all been touched by technology in one way or another.
Let’s take a moment to appreciate the simple things we had in the past and understand the complexity of those same things. One example of this is these objects that look like old coins. But in reality, they are something far more different.
Years ago, almost every girl learned how to sew. They had a sewing kit that included essentials like scissors, pins, needles, a pin cushion, and a measuring tape. But there are a couple of items in the kit that you might fail to recognize today. One is the needle threader, which very few people still use. It looks like a coin-shaped object with a thin wire shaped like a diamond. Another item is tailor’s chalk, which was used for marking fabric.
Kids these days would also find it hard to recognize certain items from the past. Here are a few examples:
- Bottle openers – Before twist-off or pull tabs existed, you needed a bottle opener to open a can or bottle. Kids today might not even know what these are.
- Record adapters – These may be mistaken for fidget spinners by the younger generation. Record adapters were used to make a record fit onto a record player if it had the wrong size hole in the middle. But since records are not commonly used anymore, these adapters are rare.
- Wonder Sauna hotpants – These were a fad in the 1970s. They were inflatable pants that were supposed to help you lose weight. However, we now know that diet and exercise are the only effective ways to lose weight.
All of these items are considered relics from the “good old days.” But for the younger generation, it’s mind-blowing to think that these objects even existed. It can be a sentimental experience to stumble upon something from the past and realize how much things have changed. Sometimes, we may wonder how we were even able to survive in the first place!
