Diego Chavez, a Mexican striker, has died. He was only 28 years old.

A tweet from FC Juarez’s club confirmed that the striker died in a car accident early Wednesday morning.

The Mexican team said nice things about the forward in a Facebook post.

“With deep sadness, we inform the entire FC Juárez community that our player Diego “El Puma” Chávez passed away early this morning,” it said.

“During his time at FC Juárez, El Puma was characterised by his joy, enthusiasm, simplicity, and willingness, as well as his spirit of dedication and love for our colours.”

The player known as “The Puma,” Chavez, played 46 games for Juarez and scored three goals.

In February of last year, the star player was signed by the Mexican first division team. He had previously played for Carlos A. Manucci in Peru.

The news has broken the hearts of Chavez’s fans, and many have taken to social media to honor him.

Someone wrote: “Rest in peace Puma and may light always shine on you!”

“Rest in peace, Puma. You always played with a lot of energy,” said a second. Always do well!”

“Rest in peace, Puma,” wrote a third. Thank you for all the hard work, love, and passion you put into this team!”

A fourth said, “What a terrible shame.” He was a player who was very proud to wear our shirt. Diego, please rest in peace.

There have been reports that Chavez was stuck in his car after he lost control and hit a sign.

Saturday is FC Juarez’s league game against Club Puebla, but it’s not clear yet if the game will still happen.
