Kathie Lee Gifford recently shared her experience undergoing a total hip replacement surgery, shedding light on the challenges of recovery.
The former Today co-host described the ordeal as one of the most painful experiences of her life. At 70, Gifford sought medical advice after enduring persistent pain.

Initially, doctors suspected her spine was the issue. “They had been looking at my spine,” Gifford told *Today*. “By the time they discovered the real problem, I was in excruciating pain.”
Once the source of her discomfort was identified, she underwent hip replacement surgery. After the procedure, her doctor remarked, “Kathie, how have you been functioning? [You had] some of the worst hips I’ve ever seen.”
Gifford’s recovery began promisingly—she was off her walker in two days and stopped taking pain medication within three. Optimistic, she resumed activities like walking, climbing stairs, and playing with her grandchildren. However, her doctor cautioned her to take recovery seriously.
Reflecting on the experience, she shared with *People*, “I’ve learned that we’re only human. I’m so grateful.”
Despite her hips being “down to the nubs” from years of an active lifestyle, Gifford has no regrets. “I was doing what God put me on this earth to do.”
Wishing Kathie Lee a smooth recovery and plenty of rest!
