FBI Arrests Democratic City Official In Federal Corruption Probe

According to reports, a Boston City Councilor was arrested by FBI special agents on Friday morning on suspicion of public corruption.

Although the lawmaker’s name was not disclosed in the FBI statement, Fox News, citing local publication WCVB, reported that she was Tania Fernandes Anderson.
As they arrested Fernandes Anderson this morning, WCVB reported seeing FBI agents outside her Dorchester home, where she had been the subject of an investigation by federal authorities.

According to the station, Fernandes Anderson has been charged by the federal government with theft and wire fraud involving programs that receive federal funding.

According to the station, Fernandes Anderson was found to have violated conflict-of-interest laws in 2023 when she hired her sister and son at City Hall following her election in 2021 and increased their salaries to $70,000 a year.

According to reports, she terminated their employment in 2022 and paid a $5,000 fine to resolve the infraction.
