My Husband of 17 Years Got Me a Vacuum

On my 50th birthday, my husband Tom gave me a vacuum cleaner as a gift, which left me feeling humiliated. I had been excited for a special surprise, but instead, he presented a household item with no thought of what I actually wanted.

It was a sharp contrast to the elaborate gift I had given him on his last birthday. Disappointed, I decided to take matters into my own hands and booked a solo trip to Rome, leaving a note for Tom about how the vacuum would keep him busy.

While in Rome, I focused on myself, ignoring Tom’s frantic texts. Upon my return, I found a surprise party waiting for me. Tom had planned it with friends and family, and he apologized for his earlier mistake.

He understood the depth of his thoughtlessness and had bought me a beautiful bracelet as a belated gift. He also mentioned how he’d used the vacuum, and we both laughed. It was a moment of growth, and I smiled, knowing that Tom had finally learned the lesson.
