At the age of 65, Marty Stuart has revealed the heartbreaking

Country music legend Marty Stuart, 65, has shared that his beloved wife, Connie Smith, has been diagnosed with a terminal illness. The couple had kept the news private until now, requesting prayers and privacy. Fighting tears, Marty said, “It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever had to face. She’s my home, my heart.”

Connie, now in her late 70s, is a Country Music Hall of Famer known for her powerful voice, deep faith, and grace. Her health has been declining over the past year, and recent tests confirmed the worst—though the exact illness remains undisclosed. “She comforts me more than herself,” Marty added. “She’s facing this with incredible grace.” Their decades-long love story began when Marty admired Connie as a teen during her 1960s rise. Years later, they reunited, fell in love, and have remained inseparable.

Though she’s stepped back from public appearances, Connie still sings quietly at home and finds strength in her faith. Marty reflected, “Every moment with her is a gift. She’s the strongest and bravest person I know.”

Fans across the country music world have shared an outpouring of support, honoring Connie as both a remarkable artist and a deeply loved soul.

“This isn’t goodbye,” Marty said. “It’s a chance to celebrate who she is—and always has been.”
