BREAKING: The president of an FAA union blows the lid off Elon Musk’s gutting of the crucial flight administration — reveals that DOGE fired essential workers without considering how it would affect the agency’s functions.
We’ve all noticed the planes falling out of the sky…
Dave Spero, head of the Professional Aviation Safety Specialists union, dropped the revelation during a Congressional hearing today. It came in response to a question from Congressman Steve Cohen about whether the firings affected air safety.
Spero revealed that only 3 of the 332 FAA employees who were fired during the mass firings have been rehired — and no other hires have been made to fill the empty positions.
Spero was then asked if MAGA oligarch Elon Musk “or someone like him” should be exerting control over the FFA’s functions and if privatization is a good idea. He replied that the agency requires predictable funding, long-term planning, and faster deployment.
“Privatization is not the solution to those problems,” he said.
President Nick Daniels of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association also testified to the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Aviation and said that while no air traffic controllers were fired by DOGE, the aviation safety professionals who were fired were “all essentials.”
“We continue to evaluate the impacts to safety and we will make sure we raise them to this committee as appropriate,” stated Daniels, adding that the looming government shutdown could disrupt that evaluation.
Trump and Musk are making all of us less safe. Their efforts to slash and burn their way through the federal government to pave the way for plutocratic tax cuts and privatization will end in disaster.
