Miguel Luna, 49, and Maynor Suazo, 37, were part of a crew working on the bridge during the incident. Six men were thrown into the Patapsco River, and only two were rescued. Luna and Suazo were among those still missing.
Miguel Luna was a proud father of three, grateful for the opportunity to provide for his family through his construction work. His wife, Maria del Carmen Castellón, expressed her devastation and uncertainty, saying, “[We feel] devastated, devastated because we have a broken heart, because we don’t know if they’ve already rescued them. We’re waiting to hear some news.”
Maynor Suazo, 37, a father of two, had immigrated to the United States from Honduras 18 years ago, seeking a better life. His brother, Martin, plans to repatriate his brother’s remains. Suazo’s mother, Yesica, mourns the loss of her son, who recently graduated from college. A family friend described Suazo as a warm-hearted and driven individual who served his community.
The crew working on the Francis Scott Key Bridge were heroes, diligently repairing potholes on the iconic structure. Despite their efforts, the collision with the cargo ship led to the bridge’s collapse and the men being thrown into the dark waters. Governor Wes Moore praised the crew for their heroism and emphasized that the bridge was up to code with no known structural issues.
