I was jolted awake by the sensation of the bed shaking beneath me. Groggily, I blinked my eyes open, trying to make sense of what was happening. As my vision adjusted to the darkness, I realized that my husband, Jack, was not lying beside me as he had been when we fell asleep.

Confusion quickly turned to shock as I saw him on the floor, kneeling beside the bed with his hands clasped together as if in prayer. But it wasn’t his posture that caught my attention—it was the fact that he was vigorously shaking the bed with his knees, causing it to rattle and quake.

“Jack, what are you doing?” I exclaimed, my voice a mixture of bewilderment and incredulity.

He froze for a moment, his eyes widening in surprise as he realized that I was awake. Slowly, he rose to his feet, his cheeks flushing with embarrassment.

“Oh, uh, sorry, honey,” he stammered, running a hand through his disheveled hair. “I, uh, was just trying to, um, fix the squeaky bed frame.”

I raised an eyebrow, skepticism evident in my expression. “At three in the morning?”

Jack shifted uncomfortably, his gaze flickering away from mine. “Well, it was bothering me,” he mumbled, clearly avoiding eye contact.

I couldn’t help but chuckle at his feeble attempt to cover up his strange behavior. “You could have waited until morning, you know,” I said, shaking my head in amusement.

But as I settled back into bed, the mystery of Jack’s midnight antics lingered in my mind. Why had he felt the need to fix the bed frame in the middle of the night, and why had he been so secretive about it?

I made a mental note to bring it up with him in the morning, but for now, I pushed the questions aside and closed my eyes, grateful for the warmth and comfort of our honeymoon suite. Little did I know, our first night as a married couple would be just the beginning of our adventures together.
