Solange Knowles revealed she suffers from multiple auto-immune disorders, including postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), that affect her health.
The Cranes In The Sky singer, 38, commented on her friend, musician Shaun Ross’, 33, Instagram video in which he candidly spoke about having POTS as a result of long COVID.
‘Sending u so much love and strength Shaun and to all in the comments struggling with the debilitating, confusing, and lonely symptoms of POTS!,’ Beyonce’s sister wrote in a comment.
‘I got diagnosed with POTS, Sjogrens and MCAS in 2018 and really relate to not wanting your health to be your identity,’ Solange – whose name came from a book her mother was reading while pregnant – added.
Solange mentioned Dysautonomia Internationl, a non-profit that ‘seeks to improve the lives of individuals living with autonomic nervous system disorders’ in her comment.
She continued: ‘The good folks at @dysautonomiaintl were really an incredible resource for me and I feel really grateful for the spoonie community for holding me down during my times of complete uncertainty!’
A spoonie is someone who suffers from chronic illnesses and disabilities who use spoons as a measure of how they feel.
‘Sending an abundance of love your way!,’ she concluded.
Ross replied to Solange, mentioning that he’s known her for most of his life.
‘Thank you so much Solange. You’ve known me since I was a teen and how energetic I can be,’ his reply began.
‘This definitely changed my entire outlook on so much try to navigate this entirely. I appreciate you so much. Sending love ❤️.’
POTS can be especially debilitating as it causes an abnormally high heart rate and dizziness when going from a laying down to sitting or sitting to standing position, or any time the heart rate becomes elevated.
Sjogren’s syndrome, on the other hand, causes extreme dry eyes and mouth as the body’s moisture-producing glands are under attack by the immune system,’ according to the Mayo Clinic.
With MCAS, the body’s white blood cells ‘inappropriately and excessively release chemical mediators, such as histamine, resulting in a range of chronic symptoms, sometimes including anaphylaxis or near-anaphylaxis attacks.
MCAS creates problems with ‘the skin, gastrointestinal tract, heart, respiratory, and neurologic systems,’ per the Natinal Institute of Health.
Solange cancelled a couple of performances back in 2017, citing a ‘medical condition’ at the time.
This coincides with the time she began to get a diagnosis for her conditions.
